Macaroni Love

there are some things
that speak about your life like photographs
brought out of the dust in December

This one is from my mother
I bought this the year we were married
some are no longer pretty
mice chewed the macaroni

each holds a space in time
some too dear to think of
falling and whirling in waves

one by one
they are symbols

of a lifetime of love

We have a box of those "special" ornaments too. I don't think I'm going to get them out this year. Each one does hold a space in time, and I'm just not up to going there yet. Who knows, you have inspired me to at least think about it :o)

memories come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, even mice-nibbled ones...

I'm very sentimental about my ornaments..some sad memories, some happy. But when the tree is decorated it's a snapshot of the last 30 years.

I'm liking your poems, grrlfriend.

We have many ornaments that were handmade by my mother and C's mother. And then we have the eggs that were hand painted and given to us as a wedding gift. They are still with us after all these years. Very special things.

omg.what a sweetly thoughtful flavored post.I wish I still had all of my MOm's christmas decorations..She used to put up all the ones her Grandkids made that were falling apart.lol.They all meant something to her.
Nice post,Jenn :)

Wait. What? said...

my holiday ornaments have so many meanings for so many different ones... but the macaroni ones that were glued together are the most prized of the bunch.

Ahhh..Jenn. Great post. I have some of those too...the Christmas ornament made of styrofoam and pipe cleaners that my [now] 38 year old son made in kindergarten. And it's raggedy every year I have to push the pipe cleaners back in, but I will put it somewhere on my tree every year.

What a beautiful write, a poet. Who knew? xoxoxoxox

Hey Jenn, I have a few that Prince made for me when he was little. I LOVE them. Other than that I always seem dissapointed with my tree! I suck at decorating it. It looks good IN THE DARK with all the lights on though! hehe. Nice post GF.

A very beautiful post. I love the 'lifetime of love' thought. And I understand why they are hard to throw away, too. I have some of those myself! ♥
